Rabat – Morocco’s international football player, Achraf Hakimi, has welcomed Real Madrid star Brahim Diaz with the Atlas Lions.

On Wednesday, Diaz was officially included in Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui’s squad for the upcoming friendly games against Angola and Mauritania, ending months of speculations.

In an Instagram story, Hakimi reposted a picture of Diaz wearing the Moroccan national team jersey with the Moroccan flag in the background.

The original post was from the official Instagram page of the national football team and was embedded with the text; “Brahim Diaz Called Up.”

Hakimi captioned his story in Spanish and Arabic; “Welcome to your home.”

Diaz’ call to the national team was welcomed by Moroccan football fans, who have long considered he would be a valuable asset to the Atlas Lions.

The new squad lineup from coach  Regragui featured another newcomer —Eliesse Ben Seghir of AS Monaco.

Like Diaz, Seghir also made a switch in their sport nationality and will join the national team for upcoming friendlies.

The squad also features Soufiane Rahimi, whose impressive performances with Emirati club Al Ain convinced Regragui to recall him. However, captain of the national team Romain Saiss is absent from the list.

The Atlas Lions’ friendly matches come on the heels of the upcoming qualifiers and international tournaments.

The first match will be against Angola on March 22nd, followed by a fixture with Mauritania on March 26th. Both matches will take place in Agadir.
