Rabat – Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo condemned Israel’s deliberate use of starvation against Palestinians.

In a post on X on Saturday, De Croo said that Israel’s “tactics of starvation” in Gaza are “inadmissible.” The statement came after he met with UNRWA Chief Philippe Lazzarini.

“Israel urgently needs to provide more humanitarian access to Gaza,” De Croo wrote on X, adding that Belgium continued to support the UN aid agency for Palestinians.

He described UNRWA as “the backbone of aid to the people in Gaza.” He further expressed his condolences for the killing of 160 UNRWA staff in Gaza.

Since Israel launched its war on Gaza on October 7, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have murdered over 31,000 Palestinians, with most casualties reported among unarmed civilians, women and children.

Ignoring continuous calls for a ceasefire, Israel has further tightened its siege on Gaza, restricting access to humanitarian aid, and driving Palestinians to mass famine. UN reports suggest that dozens of children in Gaza have died of starvation since October 7.

Israel has equally attempted to discredit UNRWA by alleging that 13 members of the UN agency are conspiring with Hamas. Israel has vehemently opposed the aid agency since its conception.

Following the allegations, several Western countries cut funding to the humanitarian organization, exacerbating the crisis in the Palestinian territory.

Earlier today, UNRWA sounded the alarm about the devastating humanitarian crisis facing the Palestinian people on social media platform X.

“The situation is catastrophic and deteriorates by the minute,” the post read. “Safe, unimpeded, and sustained access across the Gaza Strip is needed NOW.”

Earlier this week, the European Parliament adopted a resolution condemning the “catastrophic” humanitarian situation in Gaza and called on Israel to open all existing crossings to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
