Rabat – The Moroccan Minister of Tourism, Fatim-Zahra Ammor has shared Morocco’s ambitions; a target to attract millions of business tourists in the upcoming years.

Ammor said on Monday at the House of Representatives that the Tourism Ministry aims to attract 1.5 million business tourists in 2026. By 2030, the North African country seeks to attract two million tourists.

The year 2030 will mark the World Cup tournament, which will be joint-hosted by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain.

Many government officials have emphasized the tournament’s potential contribution to the country’s economy and tourism sector.

In her response to parliament’s questions, Ammor emphasized that business tourism plays a major role in promoting destinations.

She said that this sector has seen significant development in recent years and has attracted substantial investments in all destinations geared towards business travelers.

Currently, work on a world-class convention center, with a capacity of accommodating 10,000 participants, is underway in Marrakesh. The initiative aims to position the city in the top 10 global destinations for business tourism and to elevate it to the forefront in Africa, she said.

The minister also recalled the strategic roadmap for 2023-2026, noting that this project covers this period specifically, adding that reaching better achievements requires long-term financing and investment for their realization.

She also conveyed her ministry’s readiness to consider all proposals and destinations capable of hosting business tourism and to provide the necessary support and assistance.

Last year, Morocco attracted at least 14.5 million overall tourists. The North African country aims to attract 17 million tourists by 2026 and 26 million more in 2030.

Morocco is counting on the 2030 World Cup to serve as a massive marketing tool towards these endeavors.
