Rabat – Hicham Dguig, the coach of Morocco’s national futsal team, has emphasized the Atlas Lions’ obligation to win the AFCON Futsal title.
Dguig addressed the press in a post-match conference following his team’s impressive 6-0 victory over Libya in the tournament’s semi-final last night.
The win secured Morocco’s spot in the final of the tournament for the third consecutive time and also ensured their qualification for the Futsal World Cup for the fourth consecutive time.
Dguig emphasized the significance of Morocco’s qualification to both the AFCON finals and the Futsal World Cup, highlighting the success of futsal in the country.
“Today, the Moroccan team reaffirmed its commitment to futsal by its continuous presence in international competitions,” he said.
Looking ahead to the final against Angola, Dguig acknowledged the challenge of winning a third final in a row.
He noted that Angola’s players have already achieved their main objective of qualifying for the Futsal World Cup, which could alleviate some pressure.
“They have nothing to lose, and they will play the match without pressure, unlike us, as we are obligated to win the cup,” the coach added.
Discussing Morocco’s playing style in the tournament, Dguig highlighted the physical demands of elite futsal.
He revealed that the team trains for five hours daily, with a training session in the morning and another in the evening, along with a strength training session.
Dguig expressed hope that their rigorous training plan would translate into a positive performance in the final.
“I hope that this effort we are putting in will reflect positively in the final match,” he concluded.
The game will take place on Sunday at 8:00 PM Moroccan time at the Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat.
