Rabat – Police in Tangier arrested a taxi driver after a video surfaced showing him assaulting a passenger in broad daylight on Saturday morning.
According to a report from Le360, the security services in the Tangier Security Directorate took action after the video went viral on social media, leading to the apprehension of the driver.
The video captured moments of the taxi driver physically assaulting a woman, striking her in the middle of a public street near the train station.
Reports indicate that the driver was arrested and placed under provisional custody following investigations by the city’s security services.
The incident occurred when the driver, operating a small-sized taxi, was transporting the woman from a neighborhood in Tangier to the city center on Saturday.
A verbal altercation escalated into physical violence, when the driver reportedly punched the passenger, endangering her safety.
The video footage sparked outrage among social media users. The victim is reported to have lost consciousness following the attack.
This is not the first time taxi drivers in Morocco have been involved in violent acts. In recent weeks, a video went viral of three taxi drivers assaulting an InDrive driver and their passenger. The video shows what appears to be a taxi driver smashing the windshield of the driver along with intense verbal exchanges.
