Rabat – As Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank mark the joyous occasion of Eid Al Fitr, the atmosphere is far from festive. The community is overshadowed by ongoing arrests and airstrikes carried out by Israeli Occupation Forced (IOF), adding to the humanitarian crisis in the region.

According to Al Jazeera, starving Gaza residents are holding muted Eid celebrations as Israel continues to block food deliveries and launch deadly air raids. Israeli airstrikes have targeted numerous sites in Gaza, including military installations, launchers, tunnel shafts, and infrastructure, added the report.

“Israeli military drones are still buzzing in this part of [the] Rafah district, just to remind Palestinians that there is no sense of safety, even on a day that’s supposed to be a day for celebration and rejoicing,” said Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum, reporting on the ground in Gaza.

In addition, the IOF  have carried out arrests across the occupied West Bank. At least 14 arrests have been reported in various locations, including Tulkarem City, East Jerusalem, Idna, and Beit Amrin.

The individuals arrested include both adults and minors. Additionally, clashes have been reported in the Bethlehem governorate, with Israeli soldiers firing rubber-coated bullets, stun grenades, and tear gas in the Dheisheh refugee camp.

Despite these challenges, Palestinians gathered at Al-Aqsa Mosque for Eid prayers in an attempt to observe the religious holiday with a sense of normalcy. Meanwhile, Gaza residents strived to do the same, exchanging Eid greetings and coming together for prayers outside destroyed mosques.

In their Eid Al Fitr messages, world leaders have acknowledged the suffering in Gaza and Sudan and expressed solidarity and compassion for those affected.

US President Joe Biden, whom to date has been a staunch supporter of Israel on all fronts, has issued his harshest criticism yet of the IOF’s devastating war on Gaza, urging Israel to “just call a ceasefire” and describing ongoing Israeli attacks as a “mistake.”
