Rabat – Eid Al Fitr 2024 is projected to fall on April 11 in Turkiye, according to astronomical forecasts.

The exact day of the Eid Al Fitr will be confirmed following the crescent moon sighting. Like in most other Muslim-majority countries, Eid Al Fitr in Turkey is celebrated as a three-day national holiday.

Eid Al Fitr marks the end of the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, Ramadan. The religious holiday is one of two in Islam and is celebrated by a morning prayer in congregation and a religious sermon “Khutba.”

While attendance is obligatory for men, many women also partake in Eid prayer. Upon returning home, family members greet one another with a hand-kiss – a gesture of respect and affection deeply ingrained in Turkish culture.

The younger generation kisses the right hand of their elders before gently pressing it to their forehead. In return, they receive sweets, chocolates, or a token of appreciation, keeping the cherished customs.

Eid festivities are hard to escape in Turkiye. In the bustling markets, a day before Eid, throngs of last-minute shoppers flood the aisles, stocking up on bags of sweets, new clothes – especially for the little ones – and bottles of perfumes.

Meanwhile, the streets brim with the smell of – baklava and stuffed vine leaves, essential dishes for the occasion.
