Rabat – Several provinces in Morocco are expected to see a heatwave, with temperatures likely to reach between 34 and 40 degrees Celsius from Tuesday to Friday, during the upcoming Eid Al Fitr holiday.
According to a weather alert from the General Directorate of Meteorology, cities including Tata, Taroudant, Guelmim, Assa-Zag, and Smara are likely to experience temperatures ranging from 35 to 39 degrees Celsius over the next week.
Meanwhile, Inezgane, Agadir, Idawtanane, Tiznit, Sidi Ifni, Tan-Tan, Laayoune, Tarfaya, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Wadi Al-Dhahab could see temperatures reaching between 36 and 40 degrees Celsius.
The alert extends to provinces and regions including Fquih Ben Salah, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Sidi Bennour, Settat, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Chichaoua, Kelaat Sraghna, Essaouira, Marrakech, Rahamna, Safi, and Youssoufia, where temperatures between 34 and 38 degrees Celsius are anticipated.
In recent days, Morocco saw a series of heatwaves with varied temperatures, as well as dust storms affecting a number of cities.
The heatwaves and dust storms came on the heels of heavy rainfall that had received Morocco’s water reserves.
As of Sunday, the average filling rate of Moroccan dams reached 32%, totaling 5.1 billion cubic meters.
