Rabat – Exam dates in Morocco for the 2023–24 academic year will be moved by a few days, according to a circular by the Ministry of National Education.
All streams will have the standardized national baccalaureate exam from June 10 to 13, while the make-up examinations are set for July 8 to 11.
The standardized regional exams for independent candidates are scheduled for June 5 and 6. Those who do not pass will have a second chance during the make-up session on July 3 and 4.
Regarding the standardized exams for primary and middle schools, the Ministry declared that they will begin on July 1. Meanwhile, the Higher Technician Certificate (BTS) exam is set to start from May 14.
With the revised dates announced, the Ministry has therefore maintained the schedule remains unchanged since deciding in January to move the test dates. This was in order to make up for the lost hours of teaching as a result of teacher strikes that lasted more than four months, in order to make up for the lost teaching time.
According to the Ministry, this proposal calls for extending the school year by one week throughout the K-12 levels and providing students with certification upon successful completion of programs under suitable didactic and pedagogical circumstances.
The plan also calls for the extension of pedagogical support mechanisms to assist students in consolidating their learning, flexibility in the scheduling of certification exams, and a one-week postponement of national, regional, and provincial standardized examinations.
The Ministry had indicated that improved cooperation with all stakeholders and partners, adaptation of computerized exam management systems, and consideration of the regional specificities of each educational institution will be necessary to guarantee the success of these efforts.
In addition, the necessary administrative, pedagogical and financial measures, including comprehensive local implementation plans, will be implemented at the regional, provincial, and local levels.
By arming families with the necessary information, the Ministry hopes to reassure them that every effort has been made to ensure that pupils have the opportunity to receive a high-quality education. In addition, these steps will guarantee that the equal opportunity principle is upheld and enable them to take certification tests in the best possible conditions.
Teachers’ discontent with the recently implemented “New Basic System,” which they claim places more obligations without providing enough remuneration, has resulted in national rallies that have disrupted the current academic year.
