Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita has renewed Rabat’s concerns about the situation in Gaza, and more particularly Rafah.
Bourita made his remarks on Thursday in Beijing at the 10th Ministerial Meeting of the China-Arab-Cooperation Forum.
Recalling Morocco’s support for the Palestinian cause, he highlighted Morocco’s frequent call for an immediate, comprehensive, and lasting ceasefire as well as the smooth and sufficient delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
Bourita also renewed the rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians.
“What is happening in Gaza, in addition to its disastrous humanitarian repercussions, poses a real threat to regional security and stability,” the top diplomat said, noting that what is happening in the besieged enclave cannot be “accepted nor ignored.”
He also condemned the failure of the international community to end Israeli aggression targeting civilians, saying that this failure has a “huge cost.”
Bourita continued that this incapacity has encouraged the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) to continue to bomb camps housing over 100,000 displaced Palestinians near Rafah, causing dozens of civilian deaths and injuries.
The foreign minister also remarked that the decision made by Ireland, Norway, and Spain to recognize Palestine statehood is an “important” step.
The European countries’ official recognition of Palestinian statehood is a significant move towards the two-state solution. Bourita further described this solution as an “inevitable framework for establishing a lasting and comprehensive peace, through the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1968 borders with Al Quds Asharif as its capital.”
Bourita also added that she views China as a reliable partner capable of playing a constructive role in contributing to achieving a just and equitable settlement of the Palestinian issue due to its “significant position within the international community and its balanced and favorable policy on various Arab issues.”
The IOF’s fierce bombardment in Rafah continues amid global concerns and uproar, condemning the devastating situation.
Al Jazeera has reported on the developments of this bombardment. They reported that“tanks (have) rolled into the center of the southern Gaza city sheltering hundreds of thousands of civilians,” and Israeli strikes have killed at least 37 Palestinians, most of whom are taking shelter in tanks.
