Air Arabia Opens New Base at Rabat-Sale Airport

Air Arabia inaugurated a new air base at Rabat-Sale Airport on Tuesday, launching new routes to key European cities including Barcelona, Basel, Istanbul, Brussels, and Paris.

Air Arabia Opens New Base at Rabat-Sale Airport

Rabat – Air Arabia inaugurated a new air base at Rabat-Sale Airport on Tuesday, launching new routes to key European cities including Barcelona, Basel, Istanbul, Brussels, and Paris. 

According to a press release from the company, the launching ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including foreign diplomats and Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Morocco’s Minister of Tourism.

During the ceremony, Minister Ammor highlighted the strategic importance of this new base, noting its potential to bolster tourism by enhancing connectivity between Rabat and major European destinations. 

She emphasized the role of improved air links in achieving the objectives set out in Morocco’s 2023-2026 tourism roadmap, which aims to attract 17.5 million tourists by 2026.

Meanwhile, Air Arabia Morocco’s General Manager, Laila Mechbal, provided details on the new flight schedules, announcing the launch of 14 weekly international flights and three additional domestic flights between Rabat and Agadir, totaling seven weekly flights. 

The international routes include five flights to Paris, three to Barcelona, two to Brussels, two to Basel, and two to Istanbul.

On his part, Tayeb Meziane, Head of Operations at Rabat-Sale Airport, reported a significant growth in passenger traffic, with the airport handling over 484,800 passengers in the first four months of 2024, up 35% year-on-year. 

To support the growth, the airport is building a new terminal with a capacity of four million passengers per year.

Rabat-Sale Airport is currently served by seven airlines: Royal Air Maroc, Air Arabia Maroc, Ryanair, Air France, Tui Fly Belgium, Transavia France, and EasyJet.

The airlines combined operate 115 weekly flights, connecting Rabat to 21 international destinations, including Paris Orly, Madrid, Marseille, Brussels, Paris CDG, Charleroi, Montpellier, Barcelona, Basel, Istanbul, Malaga, Seville, Rome Ciampino, Paris-Beauvais, Toulouse, Düsseldorf Weeze, London Stansted, Nice, Lyon, Nantes, and Geneva. 

In addition, the airport offers domestic connections to Agadir and Errachidia.
