Rabat – The Bahrain Declaration issued by the 33rd Arab Summit in Manama commended Morocco’s role in contributing to regional peace and stability.
The declaration highlighted Morocco’s commitment towards the Palestinian cause, including the country’s contribution towards increasing the capital of the Jerusalem Fund, which amounts to $12.5 million.
The declaration’s appreciation of Morocco’s efforts to the Palestinian cause coincides with King Mohammed VI’s statement condemning Israelis’ blatant aggression targeting civilians in Gaza.
In a speech he delivered to the summit’s participants in Rabat today, the monarch said the situation in Gaza “only enhances our determination to make sure the Palestinian issue remains at the core of efforts to establish a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.”
In addition to highlighting Morocco’s support for the Palestinian cause, the declaration also welcomed Morocco’s efforts to tackle extremism.
The declaration notably highlighted the role of the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars and the Mohammed VI Institute for Training of Imams and Guides and the institution’s position as a champion of moderate Islam to combat extremism and uphold values of tolerance and coexistence.
Arab leaders, through the declaration, also emphasized the necessity of refraining from refraining from providing any form of explicit or implicit support to entities or individuals involved in terrorist activities, including any militias or irregular armed groups, rejecting all forms of extortion by terrorist groups.
News agency MAP said that Arab leaders firmly believe that these illegitimate armed entities pose a threat to the security, stability, and territorial integrity of member states.
Furthermore, the declaration also reiterated support for Morocco’s efforts in the Libyan dossier, stressing the centrality of the political agreement signed in Skhirat in 2015 as a general framework for a political solution in Libya.
Morocco has notably encouraged Libyan representatives to engage in political dialogue, seeking to find an inter-Libyan solution and decried any foreign intervention in the Libyan reconciliation process.
Morocco’s stance and efforts to make such an outcome possible have been applauded by both Libyan officials and UN diplomats familiar with the Libyan crisis.
