Rabat – Morocco’s Tourism Office (ONMT) has renewed its commitment to promoting the country’s tourism assets with campaigns aimed at pitching Morocco as a premier tourist destination to both local and foreign travelers.

ONMT reiterated this commitment during its board of directors meeting on Tuesday, highlighting the achievements the office has made in recent years in boosting Morocco’s tourist appeal.

In a statement following the meeting, the tourism office stressed that the meeting served as an opportunity to review the exceptional results of last year’s “Morocco Destination” initiative.

Of last year’s achievements, the office cited the growing number of travelers that visited Morocco in the past few months, adding that the number is expected to grow even higher by the end of this year.

The office stressed the number of arrivals, overnight stays, and revenues, which it said have increased by 34%, 35% and 12 %; respectively.

ONMT hailed the success of initiatives like the “Like in Action” plan, recalling that these  programs to promote the country’s tourism assets are aligned with the country’s tourism sector’s roadmap.

In addition to last year’s achievements, ONMT also praised the current milestones in the sector.

In particular, the office revealed that nearly six million foreign tourists had visited Morocco by the end of May this year

This number represents a 15% increase compared to the same period last year and a 38 % increase compared to 2019.

Commenting on travel revenues, ONMT said that the number reached MAD 31.87 billion in the past four months. The office expressed its satisfaction with the achievements of the past year and was particularly pleased to have doubled its partnerships at national and international levels to promote the Visit Morocco strategy.

“With regard to commercial partnerships, the airline industry, the MNOT has made every effort in 2023 to develop its contractual capacity by 4 per cent in the first half of the year, with the launch of new routes to connect Morocco to all tourist-exporting markets,” it stressed in its statement.

ONMT promised to give aviation and distribution top priority in the coming months, with the goal of securing 4.3 million seats for the 2024-2025 season, a 15% increase.

Last year Morocco welcomed 14.5 million tourists, with the country hoping to ensure the figure increased to over 15 million this year.

In 2026, the country aims to attract 17 million tourists and 26 million visitors by 2030.

In addition to presenting the tourism industry’s impressive achievements in recent years and months, the office also paid tribute to Adel El Fakir, who served as Director of General for ONMT during the past six years.

The board of directors meeting, which took place in the presence of Minister of Tourism Fatim Zahra Ammor, also wished El Fakir succession to his new duties as Director General of the National Airports Office (ONDA).

King Mohammed VI appointed El Fakir as new head of Morocco’s Airports authority earlier this month, in recognition of his effective leadership of the country’s Tourism Office in the past few years.
