Rabat – The Abu Dhabi football club, Al Jazira, has signed Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta as their new head coach for the upcoming season, according to Emirati news outlet Al Etihad.
The decision follows the mutual termination of Ammouta’s contract with the Jordan Football Association, paving the way for his official introduction to the UAE club.
Ammouta’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Al Jazira, as the club seeks to rebuild during the current transitional period.
Ammouta made a name for himself after leading Jordan to the final stage of the 2023 Asia Cup in Qatar. The qualification marks the first time in history that Jordan reached this stage.
In addition, under his leadership, the team advanced to the third round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, securing a notable victory against Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.
Beyond his achievements with the Jordanian national team, Ammouta boasts an impressive resume with significant accomplishments at both the club and national levels in Morocco. A former player himself, Ammouta also has experience playing for Sharjah in the UAE.
Rumors of his imminent departure from the Jordanian team started circulating in February of this year.
The Moroccan coach had said in an interview that he would leave the Jordanian squad when his contract expires in a few months, stressing that he urgently needs to be with his family in Morocco as he is going through a difficult moment.
