Rabat- The Jordan Football Association approved today the request of Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta to terminate his contract with the national team, along with his coaching staff, by mutual agreement.
In a statement announcing the decision, the federation expressed its “pride and deep appreciation for the period during which Moroccan coach Hussein Amotta led the national team, and for the significant efforts and contributions made by him and his coaching staff to Jordanian football.”
Under Ammouta’s leadership, the Jordan national team achieved historic milestones. These included securing second place in the 2023 Asian Cup, qualifying for the decisive stage of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and impressively topping their group at the lastest Asian Cup.
The federation stated in its announcement that it “appreciates the special circumstances that prevented Coach Amouta from continuing to lead the national team. Therefore, the Union’s Board of Directors has agreed to the coach’s request to terminate his contract and that of his coaching staff by mutual agreement.”
It also emphasized that “the achievements made under Amouta’s leadership of the national team will always be highly valued and appreciated by the Jordanian football community and its supporters.”
The Jordan Football Association’s Board of Directors has decided to appoint Moroccan coach Jamal Sellami as the new technical director of the national team.
Sellami will lead the Jordanian team in upcoming competitions, including the critical World Cup 2026 qualifiers starting next September and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup finals in Saudi Arabia early next year.
The federation will officially introduce Sellami as the new coach of the national team before the end of this month. Sellami’s coaching staff will include assistants Omar Najehi and Mustafa Al-Khalifi.
