Rabat – The alleged docking of an Israeli warship in Moroccan waters has sparked concern and frustration across the country, including within political circles.
In addition to the Justice and Development Party (PJD), the political bureau of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) also expressed discontent with the alleged landing of the Israeli warship, which is reportedly intended to support the Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) devastating war on civilians in Gaza.
The party stressed that Morocco’s alleged move is unacceptable in light of the ongoing war on Gaza. “In the face of the continued brutal Israeli aggression, there can be no normal relations with Israel or allowing an Israeli military ship to dock in a Moroccan port, ” PPS said on Tuesday.
Reports earlier this week said that an Israeli military vessel docked in Morocco’s Tangier port.
Several other parties expressed concerns about the situation, including the Democratic Left Federation, which renewed rejection of all forms of ties between Morocco and Israel.
For the party, the authorization allegedly granted to Israel is a “flagrant violation of the decision of the International Court of Justice.”
PJD commented on the reported news earlier this week, saying that such circulated news “undoubtedly disturbs Morocco’s positions on the palestinian cause.”
“These reports also provoked significant reactions and dismay among the Moroccan people amid the ongoing brutal aggression by the Israeli forces on Gaza and its continuous commission of massacres,”said Abdellah Bouanou, head of the PJD parlimentary group .
The PJD has been a vocal critic of the IOF’s ongoing massacres in war-torn Gaza, consistently urging the Moroccan government to sever diplomatic ties with Netanyahu’s administration.
Abdelilah Benkirane, leader of the political party and former Head of Government , strongly criticized the failure to address the situation in Gaza, describing Morocco’s solidarity campaign with Palestine amid the aggression as weak.
“The solidarity of Moroccans with Gaza expressed through protests and sit-ins remains weak and without political impact,” Benkirane said on Monday during a PJD meeting.
