Rabat – Moroccan boxer Khadija Mardi has made headlines with an impressive performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, securing her place in the quarterfinals after a hard-fought victory over Britain’s Chantelle Reid.

The match, which took place on Wednesday, saw Mardi edge out Reid with a narrow 3-2 win, reflecting her skill and determination on the international stage.

This victory marks a significant achievement for Mardi, who continues to build on her reputation as a formidable competitor in the -75 kg weight class.

Her advancement to the quarterfinals not only highlights her skills but also spotlights Morocco’s growing prominence in boxing.

On Sunday, August 4, Mardi is set to face Australian Caitlin Parker, who secured her place by defeating Mexican Vanessa Ortiz.

Mardi’s success comes on the heels of notable accomplishment by another Moroccan boxer. Widad Bertal had also secured a spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Thailand’s Jutamas Jitpong on August 30.

With Mardi’s and Bertal’s progress, Morocco has demonstrated its competitive edge and potential in Olympic boxing.

Mardi competed in the women’s middleweight division at the 2016 Summer Olympics but was defeated by Dariga Shakimova in the quarterfinals.

She qualified to represent Morocco at the 2020 Summer Olympics but withdrew due to medical issues.

In 2022, Mardi secured a gold medal at the African Amateur Boxing Championships and a silver medal at the IBA Women’s Boxing Championships.

The following year, she made history by winning the gold medal at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Khadija Mardi to see if she can continue her winning streak and possibly clinch a medal for her country.
