Rabat – Senior United Nations officials have issued an alarming warning about the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling for immediate intervention to prevent further catastrophe.

The plea came during a Security Council briefing on Friday, highlighting the severe challenges faced by aid workers and the urgent need for international assistance.

Muhannad Hadi, the UN’s Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, and Antonia De Meo, the Deputy Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), detailed the grim conditions in Gaza.

According to their reports, the conflict has resulted in over 38,000 deaths and left more than 88,000 injured since its onset.

“For nearly ten months, Palestinians and Israelis have endured unimaginable suffering, grief, and loss,” De Meo told the Security Council. “Over two million people in Gaza are trapped in a relentless cycle of death and destruction.”

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is marked by widespread fear, hunger, disease, and repeated displacement. Basic necessities, including food, clean water, and sanitation, are scarce, exacerbating the daily struggles of Gaza’s residents.

“Famine remains a looming threat, particularly in southern Gaza,” De Meo warned. “The spread of communicable diseases is also on the rise.”

Hadi emphasized the risks faced by aid workers operating in the volatile region.

“The danger to humanitarian staff is escalating, making it increasingly difficult to deliver essential aid,” he said. “We need immediate and substantial support from the international community to alleviate this suffering.”
