In every World Cup, we live stories of new beginnings and endings as well. But this year is different because we will witness the last dances of some of the game’s biggest legends ever, including its two best players for the past fifteen years -- Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. At the same time, however, this year’s tournament is going to witness the first steps of football's rising stars.

In every World Cup, we live stories of new beginnings and endings as well. But this year is different because we will witness the last dances of some of the game’s biggest legends ever, including its two best players for the past fifteen years —  Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. At the same time, however, this year’s tournament is going to witness the first steps of football’s rising stars.

A generation with whom we grew up, a generation that dominated for over a decade: Luka Modric, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are players who represented intelligence; they carried the weight of reshaping modern football. Yet sadly, every match of this World Cup might be the final chapter of their unforgettable international careers.

But on the bright side, this year the spotlight is already shifting towards a new generation to carry the torch. Stars like Ayyoub Bouaddi, Neil EL Aynaoui, Désiré Doué, Michael Olise, and  Lamine Yamal are expected to add fearlessness and unpredictability to this year’s World Cup edition. For them, this is their opportunity to prove to the world that they are worthy of defending their national teams’ legacies.

The beautiful mixture between young emerging talents and proven ones will be one of the most defining traits of this World Cup. On one side, a generation is coming with nothing but ambition, looking forward to etching their names into memory with outstanding performances.

On the other side, a generation of legends and icons is fighting to give their best performances possible to crown their careers in the best possible way. In so doing, they are driven by a deep love and passion for what they do. For them, it is not only about winning; it is also about finishing with the same greatness that they started with.

At the end of the day, nothing lasts forever. Even in football, new names and talents will appear, and old ones will step aside and perform their last dances. And that is why the 2026 World Cup will not just crown a winner; it will mark a turning point in football history, with legendary icons writing their last chapter as new stars emerge.
