Rabat – Morocco is experiencing a remarkable transformation under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, positioning itself among the most stable and advanced countries on the African continent, said Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB).
In a statement to MAP on the occasion of the upcoming Throne Day, Adesina praised King Mohammed VI as the “architect” of modern Morocco, celebrating a quarter-century of transformative leadership.
Adesina highlighted that the King’s ambition and vision have delivered tangible results. Over the past 25 years, Morocco has doubled its GDP and developed world-class infrastructure.
Major projects such as the Noor Solar Power Plant, one of the largest globally, and the Tanger Med Port, a colossal maritime infrastructure, exemplify this progress.
The country’s high-speed rail line, the only one in Africa, further demonstrates Morocco’s increasing influence, clear strategic vision, and growing strength on the regional stage.
The president of the AfDB pointed to several key projects: expanding the national road and highway network, constructing numerous ports and airports, and improving access to potable water in rural areas.
These initiatives have been crucial in fostering economic growth and reducing regional disparities.
Adesina also emphasized the importance of investing in human capital alongside infrastructure advancements.
Significant progress has been made in developing the educational system and vocational training. The King’s policies have supported innovative entrepreneurs across both traditional and advanced sectors, fostering a culture of innovation and economic diversification.
The success of Morocco’s transformation is attributed to innovative sectoral strategies, effective structural reforms, and prudent macroeconomic policies. The AfDB president further praised the continually evolving business climate, which has attracted investment and boosted economic growth.
