Morocco’s DGSSI Issues Recommendations Following Global IT Outage

Marrakech – In the wake of a massive worldwide outage affecting, among many others,  Microsoft Windows systems using CrowdStrike software, Morocco’s General Directorate of Information System Security (DGSSI) has released a set of recommendations for users and organizations impacted by the disruption.

The DGSSI’s Cyber Vigilance, Detection and Response Center (maCERT) published a notice, advising affected parties to identify Windows systems running Crowdstrike Falcon, postpone Crowdstrike updates until the issue is resolved, restore systems to a previous restore point if possible.

Furthermore, maCERT recommended testing updates in a testing environment before applying them to production, and regularly backing up systems to enable restoration in case of similar problems.

The agency also stressed the importance of reporting incidents, service disruptions, and measures taken in response to the DGSSI.

The global outage, which occurred earlier this morning, impacted a wide range of users and critical services, including airports, airlines, banks, and television networks.

According to reports, many users were disconnected from their systems and encountered critical errors, including the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) on Windows systems.

The cause of the outage has been attributed to a recent CrowdStrike update on a variety of systems, including multiple Microsoft Windows systems, which affected system stability and, consequently, all regular operations.

Numerous European airports and airlines reported issues as a result of the outage, with some experiencing delays, manual check-ins, and longer security queues.
