Rabat – Moroccan-Spanish wonder boy Lamine Yamal became the youngest scorer in UEFA Euro Championship history today, after netting a goal against France in the semi-final match held at the Munich Football Arena.

The 16-year-old sensation delivered a 21st-minute strike against France, giving his team a much-needed equalizer.

Yamal collected the ball in the final third, expertly setting himself up for a left-footed shot that curled past France’s goalkeeper Mike Maignan, hitting the inside of the left post before finding the back of the net.

The goal broke the previous record held by Switzerland’s Johan Vonlathen, who was exactly 18 years and 141 days old when he scored in 2004.

The young Barcelona star has been instrumental for Spain throughout the tournament, appearing in all six of their games and starting five.

Yamal also contributed with assists in the matches against Croatia and in Spain’s first two knockout round games.

Yamal’s goal tied the game at 1-1 after France’s Randal Kolo Muani had opened the scoring.

Just minutes later, Spain took the lead when French defender Jules Kounde deflected a shot by Dani Olmo into his own net, resulting in an own goal and making it 2-1 in favor of Spain by the 25th minute.

As Morocco’s Yamal prepares to celebrate his 17th birthday on July 13, his extraordinary performance has already left an indelible mark on Euro history.
