Rabat – Moroccan tennis player Bennani, seeded number 14, advanced to the junior Wimbledon round of 16 today, after a three-set victory over British player Oliver Bonding (6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (10-6)).
In the second round of the British Grand Slam, Bennani will face Spain’s Rafael Jodar, who defeated Korean player Donghyun Hwang in three sets (6-4, 1-6, 6-2).
The young Moroccan tennis player, aged 17, reached the junior singles and doubles quarterfinals at Roland Garros earlier this year.
In the juniors category, Reda ranked 35th in the world, a position that earned him a spot in the main draw of the French Internationals (Roland-Garros).
In June, he qualified for the last 16 of the Juniors French Open by beating Italy’s Daniele Rapagnetta. Bennani won in two sets 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
He secured his spot in the second round on Monday by beating the Frenchman Raphael Vaksmann (6-3, 6-3).
In April 2023, he received a wild card to participate in the professional tennis tournament Madrid Open, a first for a Moroccan tennis player given his young age.
In early April, he took part in the 37th edition of the Grand Prix Hassan II tennis tournament in Marrakech, where he stood out by reaching the final draw of the competition, eliminating the 165th-ranked player in the world, Czech Vit Kopriva, in two sets (7-6, 7-5), before losing to Italian Andreas Vavassori.
Due to his determination, hard work, and intense training, Reda clinched the top spot in the U18 African Championship held in Egypt last February.
