Al Omrane to Revamp Florence Square in Fez

Rabat – The company Al Omrane Fez-Meknes has just launched a development project aimed at transforming Florence Square, one of the most famous public spaces in Fez.

With a budget estimated at MAD 10.58 million ($1.07 million), this large-scale project is set to refurbish Florence square into a strategic one since it is located along Hassan II Avenue, one of the main urban axes of Fez.

This project is slated for completion within 8 months. The renovation of Florence Square is part of the ongoing restoration efforts undertaken in recent years on Hassan II Avenue.

The construction of several fountains will be a standout feature.

In addition to small fountains, a large one standing 4 meters high, equipped with animated water jets, will be installed as the centerpiece.

These fountains will be clad in marble of different colors, adding elegance and refinement to the whole area, according to Al Omrane Fez.

Lighting is also a priority, with plans for the installation of artisanal ambient lighting.

Landscaping is integral to this project, with plans to create green spaces and plant shrubs and perennial plants to enhance the square’s verdant appeal.

The project will begin with preparatory phases including the removal of unsuitable materials and the placement of structures by a certified surveyor.

This will be followed by earthworks, the installation of concrete curbs, and the establishment of the ambient lighting network.

The project also includes the supply and installation of drainage pipes, as well as the use of materials for the pavements.

According to reports, special attention will be given to managing existing underground networks (water, electricity, telephone) to integrate new installations.

Throughout the project, checks will be carried out to ensure the quality and durability of the structures. Resistance and waterproofing tests will be conducted on the different components.

The redevelopment project for Florence Square, part of an overall initiative to enhance the urban heritage of Fez, includes restoring the site once the works are completed, with the reinstatement of roadways, sidewalks, and verges.

This comes after Moroccan Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit revealed on Tuesday a critical initiative aimed at readying Fez to host crucial and highly anticipated games of the 2030 World Cup.

Addressing a gathering in Fez, Laftit stressed the importance of an inventive strategy for the plan, which he said will include all the physical, logistical, and structural necessities specified by FIFA.
