Fez – The Private University of Fez hosted today a groundbreaking conference on digital dentistry as part of its initiatives to advance dental education in Morocco.
The event gathered experts and educators from around the globe, including distinguished figures like Professor Fernando Zarone, renowned for his expertise in prosthodontics at the University of Naples, Italy, and Professor Jaafar Mouhyi, former president of the Digital Dentistry Society.

Professor Zarone expressed his enthusiasm about collaborating with the faculty of the Private University of Fez.
“I am very happy to be here to share my knowledge and explore new ways to teach dentistry,” he remarked in an interview with Morocco World News.
Professor Mouhyi echoed this sentiment, stressing the transformative impact of digital education.

“Today marks a pivotal moment as we embark on providing a fully digital education from the outset,” he also noted to MWN, envisioning a future where Moroccan dentistry students are adept at utilizing digital devices alongside traditional techniques.
The conference opened with a warm welcome from Dean Rachida Amezian, who expressed gratitude to all participants and reiterated the university’s commitment to delivering high-quality education.

In a post-conference interview with MWN, Amezian stated that the “Digital has completely changed our lives and traditions, compelling us to embark on a digital era in dentistry as well.”
For her, this shift reflects the profound impact of technology on the dental field and evolving trends and practices in modern Moroccan healthcare.
She also mentioned the role of digital technology in modern education, especially in the foggy aftermath of COVID-19.
She stated some of its advantages, such as accessibility, flexibility, interactivity, and immersive experiences through VR systems.

The conference’s most critical moment was the signing of a collaboration agreement between the Private University of Fez and the University Federico II of Naples.

As part of this collaboration, the two universities pledged to create a specialized master’s program designed for Moroccan dentists, incorporating expertise from both institutions to propel dental practice in Morocco towards a digitized future.
As a testament to the occasion, Zirone was honored with a trophy presented by President Lahlou Mohammed Aziz of the Private University of Fez.
Representing University Federico II, Zarone conveyed the Italian university’s commitment to this collaboration. His presentation at today’s conference was titled “Digital technologies are game-changers in real rehabilitation projects.”
Mouhyi spoke with great optimism about the future of digital dentistry in Morocco. “Today, dentistry is digital,” he proclaimed, envisioning a future where Moroccan universities lead in the global drive for digitizing digital dental education.
He thanked Professor Zarone for his contributions and participation, arguing that today’s conference marked a momentous step towards enhancing dental education in the region.
Chada Zaire, a student at the Fez Private University, made sanguine comments to MWN on the sidelines of the conference. Zaire spoke enthusiastically of what she described as the transformative impact of digital dentistry for current and future students of the Private University of Fez.
“This conference will be about the revolution of digital dentistry and how it changed the learning process for students and made it easier for professors as well,” she said.
The conference concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session that sparked lively discussions among attendees.
As they parted ways, both the panelists and most attendees seemed to be convinced that the conference was a fitting illustration of Morocco’s readiness to embrace the transformational potential of digital dentistry.
