Rabat – Moroccan para-athlete Ayoub Adouich clinched a bronze medal in the -63 kg Para Taekwondo category today at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
With his victory, Adouich secured Morocco’s first ever medal in para-taekwondo. The win came after his Brazilian opponent, Nathan Torquato, withdrew from the competition.
This marks Morocco’s second medal at the Paralympics, following Aymane El Haddaoui’s bronze in the T47 100-meter sprint earlier today.
Morocco is participating in the event with 38 athletes. Hopes are high for the Moroccan delegation to deliver a strong performance across different disciplines.
The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are taking place between August 28 and September 8. The Games feature over 4,400 athletes from 168 delegations competing in 22 para sports, with a total of 549 medal events scheduled over 11 days.
The opening ceremony, held on Wednesday, took place outside of a stadium for the first time. It began with a parade of athletes along the Champs-Élysées and into Place de la Concorde.
The ceremony included performances by artists such as Christine and the Queens, Chilly Gonzales, and Sébastien Tellier.
French Paralympians Sandrine Martinet and Arnaud Assoumani took the Paralympic Oath, and there was a symbolic torch handover from Olympic champion Florent Manaudou to Paralympic champion Michaël Jérémiasz.
The event was attended by over 50,000 spectators and watched by an estimated 300 million viewers worldwide.
