Rabat – US automotive technology supplier Gentex has announced plans to open a manufacturing facility in Morocco as part of its efforts to expand production closer to its European customers.
Company leaders disclosed the project during Gentex’s second-quarter 2026 earnings report, saying the company had signed a letter of intent, selected a site, and received support from the Moroccan government to establish the plant.
The facility is expected to produce basic electrochromic mirrors and advanced electronic modules for vehicles manufactured and sold in Europe. Gentex plans to begin production in 2028.
Chief Operating Officer Neil Boehm said the decision was driven by growing demand from international customers to localize their supply chains and reduce potential risks linked to global production networks.
“Many of our international customers are focused on derisking their supply base by increasing the amount of localized production in each region where they operate,” Boehm said.
He explained that several European customers now require suppliers to have manufacturing operations in the region to support vehicles built and sold in Europe.
The planned Moroccan facility would allow Gentex to respond to these requests while remaining close to European automotive markets. Morocco’s geographic position, established automotive industry, and strong transport links with Europe make the country an attractive manufacturing base for companies serving the region.
Boehm said Gentex does not expect the shift in production to significantly increase its operating expenses. The company plans to continue supplying core technologies from its existing facilities, limiting the risk of creating excess production capacity elsewhere.

The project could further strengthen Morocco’s position as a major automotive manufacturing hub and support the development of the country’s automotive supply chain. It could also create new industrial jobs and increase the production of higher-value automotive technologies in Morocco.
Founded in 1974 and headquartered in Zeeland, Michigan, Gentex is a global supplier of digital vision, connected-car technologies, dimmable glass, fire protection products, medical devices, and consumer electronics. The company is best known for its automatic-dimming rearview mirrors and advanced vehicle technologies.
Gentex reported net sales of $651.3 million ( MAD 6 billion) in the second quarter of 2026 and net income of $114.7 million ( MAD 1.06 billion). Automotive revenue declined by around 3% compared with the previous quarter, partly reflecting weaker sales in Europe, Japan, South Korea, and China.
The Morocco project forms part of Gentex’s broader strategy to adapt to changing customer demands while expanding its presence in key international mark
