Rabat – Osame Sahraoui, who has dual citizenship with Norway and Morocco, has announced his decision to represent Morocco on the international stage.

This choice marks a significant shift from his previous commitments with Norway, where he earned his place in the national team on several occasions and played one international match.

Sahraoui’s journey with Norway includes 13 appearances for the U21 national team, showcasing his talent and potential. Despite being selected for various teams, Sahraoui faced challenges due to injuries, limiting his involvement to just two occasions.

The Norwegian Football Association (NFF) acknowledged the ongoing discussions with Sahraoui and his advisors, recognizing the player’s complex decision-making process.

In a statement, the NFF expressed their understanding of Sahraoui’s decision, emphasizing their respect for Morocco’s footballing heritage.

“We have had close and regular contact with Osame and his advisors since his debut against Jordan a year ago,” the statement read. “We respected his decision and only discussed why he should choose Norway, given our admiration for Morocco as a footballing nation”.

For his part, Sahraoui eresponded with his gratitude towards Norway’s footballing community.

“I want to thank Ståle and the national team staff for their support and trust throughout my career. The decision to switch allegiance was incredibly challenging, as my heart is divided between Norway and Morocco,” Sahraoui stated. “After thorough discussions with my advisors and family, I have made the final choice to play for Morocco.”

He further acknowledged the Norwegian team’s support and extended his best wishes to them, highlighting the difficulty of the decision while respecting the process.
