Rabat – Spain international Rodri will undergo back surgery following his country’s 2026 FIFA World Cup triumph, with the Manchester City midfielder set for a brief recovery period before returning to preseason preparations.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the procedure had already been planned before the start of the World Cup at the player’s request to address a lingering back issue that had caused discomfort in recent months.
The report added that the operation is considered minor and will not require Rodri to stay overnight in the hospital. He is expected to recover within three weeks, allowing him to rejoin Manchester City’s preparations for the new season.
Despite the physical issue, the injury did not affect Rodri’s performances during the World Cup, where he played a key role in helping Spain lift the trophy.
The surgery comes as speculation continues over the midfielder’s future. Recent reports have claimed that Rodri has once again made himself available to Real Madrid, fueling rumors of a potential move to the Spanish giants.
For now, however, the 30-year-old’s immediate focus will be on completing his recovery before a decision is made on whether he remains at Manchester City or embarks on a new chapter in his career.
