Rabat – Mouloudia Club of Oujda (MCO) recently announced the appointment of Moroccan coach Mohamed Ben Messaoud as their new head coach, taking over Faouzi Jamal’s position.
The club formalized this change by signing a one-season renewable contract with Ben Messaoud on Monday.
MCO, which ended the previous season in 15th place with 25 points, had been relegated to the second division.
The club’s fortunes have seen ups and downs, including a notable period under former president Mohamed Houar.
Houar, who led the club since 2017, was instrumental in their Botola 2 title for the 2017-2018 season and their subsequent strong performance in the league.

On March 7, 2024, Ziani Madani was elected as the new president during a general meeting held at the headquarters of the Sports Leagues of the Oriental region in Oujda.
MCO’s recent season was marked by a decisive defeat at the hands of Raja Athletic Club, which secured their 13th Botola title for the 2023-2024 season without losing a match.
Raja’s dominant performance at the Honneur Stadium in Oujda included a goal by Abdellah Khafifi in the 34th minute and a penalty conversion by Algerian striker Yousri Bouzok just before halftime.
Founded on March 16, 1946, Mouloudia Club of Oujda, whose name translates to “birth” in Arabic, coincides with the anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, adding a historical and cultural significance to the club’s establishment.
