Rabat- Morocco’s men’s Olympic football team made a historic mark at the Paris 2024 Olympics by scoring a total of 17 goals across six matches, culminating in a 6-0 victory over Egypt in the bronze medal match.
In the Group Stage, Morocco delivered a standout performance, highlighted by a significant upset against Argentina that set the tone for their campaign. Despite a setback with a 2-1 loss to Ukraine, they quickly bounced back with a decisive 3-0 victory over Iraq in their final group match.
The Moroccan Lions then roared their way to the semifinals by thrashing the United States 4-0 in the Quarterfinals, further establishing themselves as a formidable team.
But the team lost 2-1 to Spain in a drama-filled semifinal match, leaving them needing to win the bronze medal game to end the tournament on a high note.
The Bronze Medal Match against Egypt proved to be a one-sided affair, with Morocco emerging victorious with a resounding 6-0 score.
The goalscorers for Morocco were Abde Ezzalzouli (21st minute), Soufiane Rahimi (24th and 64th minutes), Bilal El Khannouss (51st minute), Akram Nakach (73rd minute), and Achraf Hakimi (87th minute, free kick).
Soufiane Rahimi emerged as the tournament’s top scorer with 8 goals, making him the tournament’s standout player. His performance included scoring in every match he played, a remarkable feat that highlighted his consistency and skill.
The second-highest scorers are Spain’s Fermín López and France’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, each with 4 goals.
