Rabat – The women’s teams of Sevilla FC and SC Casablanca are set to face each other in a friendly match on Saturday, August 24, in Casablanca, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. local time.

This match will showcase the CAF Women’s Champions League runners-up from Casablanca competing against the Spanish side, which recently signed left winger Fatima Tagnaout for a two-season term.

The match comes following an invitation from SC Casablanca to participate in the Moroccan Women’s Cup 2024, according to a statement from Sevilla FC.

Following several discussions between the clubs’ management, an agreement was made to arrange this friendly match, the statement added.

This game aims to strengthen the connection between the two teams, enhance their relationship, and pave the way for potential future collaborations, including the exchange of knowledge and expertise in the football industry.

Sevilla FC sees this match as an opportunity to strengthen its connections with Moroccan football, especially in the realm of women’s football, the club noted.

“Our visit will provide David Losada’s team with a new challenge as they prepare for the 2024-2025 Liga F season,” the club’s statement added. “This friendly complements our other international matches, including those in the Algarve Trophy in Portugal, where we will face Sporting CP and Benfica on August 8 and 9, respectively.”

The match is particularly significant for Fatima Tagnaout, a recent addition to Sevilla FC Women. It will be a poignant moment for her as she plays in her home country shortly after joining her new club.

Tagnaout, who has made a remarkable impact both with her national team and at the club level in Morocco, previously secured eight consecutive league titles and won the CAF Women’s Champions League in 2022. She was also honored as the best player in African club football.

Since 2019, SC Casablanca has achieved formidable progress in women’s football. Together with AS FAR, SC Casablanca has rapidly emerged as a leading force in the CAF Women’s Champions League, advancing to the finals in 2023.
