Rabat – The Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for All (FRMSPT) hosted a socio-sports event yesterday for 188 young detainees at the Toulal 2 local prison in Meknès. This initiative is part of the national mass sports caravan, which began on July 15.
Aziz Lakhal, director of Toulal 2 prison, spoke about the positive impact of the sports event, which aligns with the celebrations commemorating the 25th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s ascension to the throne.
He elucidated that such initiatives support the strategic goals of the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR), and its focus on encouraging prisoners to participate in sports and physical activities and facilitating their reintegration into society after release.

Youssef Chaaraoui, responsible for managing cultural, artistic, and sports activities at Toulal 2 prison, reported that inmates have access to literacy programs, informal education, and various stages of formal education, including primary, middle, secondary, and university levels. Notably, 22 detainees at the facility earned their baccalaureate this year.
This year, the DGAPR announced that 40.45% of inmates who participated in the 2024 regular baccalaureate session passed the exam. Of the 1,399 detainees who took the exam, 566 passed it. This marked a 52.15% increase from last year’s figures, where 372 out of 1,372 candidates were successful.
Chaaraoui added that many detainees are also enrolled in professional training in areas such as electricity, dyeing, and computing, and consistently take part in educational, cultural, artistic, and sports programs.
Aziz Besbes, a board member of FRMSPT, highlighted the federation’s dedication to ensuring that everyone, regardless of gender, has access to physical activities.
He stressed the societal and individual benefits of sports, aligning with the Moroccan constitution’s view of sports as a fundamental human right.
Besbes noted that the national mass sports caravan, organized by the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for All under the theme “Mass Sports: A Fundamental Condition for Building a Healthy Society,” has so far toured 10 regions. The caravan will next visit Ksar Seghir on August 3 and will arrive in Rabat on August 5.
Founded in 2009, the Royal Moroccan Federation for Sports for All aims to promote and organize various sports activities for citizens of all age groups. It strives to transmit the benefits of sports to everyone and to encourage widespread participation nationwide.
