Rabat – Three Casablanca-based schools have earned top positions in France’s prestigious Concours Général des Lycées, an annual inter-school competition that recognizes academic excellence. The awards were presented on July 10 at the Sorbonne in Paris.
Leading Moroccan schools, Lycée Al Jabr secured the 6th position in the ranking, Le Figaro reported. Its students won four awards, including a second prize and two honorable mentions in Arabic, making it the highest-ranking foreign school.
Casablanca’s Lycée Léon l’Africain and Lycée Lyautey also made the list, each earning top prizes.
Held annually in France, the competition challenges the best students from French and international schools in various disciplines.
Contestants typically face questions in a wide range of subjects including classical languages (mostly Latin and Greek), mathematics, and philosophy, as well as in vocational fields such as hairdressing and equipment maintenance.
Over 24,400 candidates vied for recognition in this year’s competition, with 465 students winning prizes.
Elite Parisian schools dominated the top ranks, with Lycée Stanislas and Lycée Louis-le-Grand each earning 25 awards. Lycée Henry IV and Lycée International in Saint-Germain-en-Laye also performed strongly, securing third place with 11 awards each.
In addition to Casablanca’s Lycée Al Jabr, French Lycée of Shanghai and the Lycée International Jean Giono in Turin were among the other notable foreign schools recognized for their students’ achievements.
