Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita engaged in a phone call on Monday with David Lammy, the UK’s new Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.

During their conversation, the two ministers discussed various regional and international issues of mutual interest, including regional security and prosperity.

In addition, Lammy extended congratulations on the 25th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the Throne as both ministers celebrated the historical ties between Morocco and the United Kingdom.

In a post on X last night, Lammy highlighted the strength of the UK-Morocco relationship, emphasizing its historical depth and ongoing growth. “The UK’s relationship with Morocco dates back 800 years and goes from strength to strength,” he said.

The British minister added that in his conversation with Bourita, he congratulated him on “25 years of HM King Mohammed VI’s leadership.”  “We discussed regional security & prosperity, which is more important than ever,” he added.

Last week, the new British government underlined its commitment to enhancing bilateral ties with Morocco, particularly in the realm of security. British Minister of State for Defense, Lord Vernon Coaker, conveyed this stance during a reception at the Moroccan embassy in London celebrating King Mohammed VI’s 25th anniversary on the throne.

Coaker expressed the UK’s enthusiasm and reliability as a partner for Morocco, especially as the country co-hosts the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.

“As Morocco moves towards a brighter future under the leadership of his majesty King Mohammed VI, and as the world’s eyes are focused on the kingdom co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal, Morocco can count on the United Kingdom as an enthusiastic and reliable partner,” he said.

In addition, Coaker praised Morocco’s efforts in maintaining peace and fostering stability and development in the Sahel and West Africa regions under King Mohammed VI’s leadership.
