Rabat – Tarik Sketioui, the national coach for Morocco’s Olympic team is determined to come back to Morocco with a bronze medal.
The Atlas Lions will face the Egyptian Pharaohs today at 4 p.m. Moroccan time in the third-place game– the final match for the national team in their Olympics 2024 journey.
Sketioui told the press that today’s match should be a result of the squad’s efforts.
“There were great efforts at all levels from players, technical and medical staff to the administration,” he said.
Sketioui acknowledged that the goal is to reach the final of the tournament but now “we must be mentally prepared and do what must be done. We are determined to return to Morocco with a medal, so that our efforts are not in vain.”
The U-23 coach further stressed that today’s assignment will not be easy as the rival is “strong,” emphasizing that games between Morocco and Egypt have always been with a “special character” and “distinguished by great rivalry.”
Morocco lost to Spain during the semi-finals earlier this week on Monday, dashing the Atlas Lions’ dream to reach the final.
The Moroccan team’s performances and resilience, however, received applause from the international sports community.
FIFA, the governing body of world football, commended Morocco’s Olympic team performances during the competition.
On Wednesday, FIFA said that the Moroccan Olympic squad proved its worth and strength by reaching the semi-finals once again.
