Rabat – For the first time, Morocco will host the World Congress on In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in Marrakech from November 7 to 9.
IVF is a process in which an egg is fertilized with sperm outside the body, typically in a laboratory setting. This form of assisted reproductive technology is commonly used to treat infertility and facilitate gestational surrogacy.
This event, organized by the Moroccan Society of Reproductive Medicine (SMMR) in collaboration with several prominent organizations, including the Moroccan Society of Endometriosis and Reproductive Medicine (MSERM) and the Moroccan Association of Reproductive Biology and Genetics (AMBRG), will convene at the Habous Cultural and Administrative Complex.
In a recent press release, Omar Sefrioui, President of the 22nd World Congress on In Vitro Fertilization, pointed out the importance of bringing the event to Marrakech, noting the intense competition against renowned cities.
“Winning the bid to hold this congress in Marrakech was no easy task, especially as we were up against such strong contenders as Sydney, Buenos Aires, and Rome. We deployed colossal resources, both in terms of communication and the proposed scientific program,” he stated.
“We wanted to give a very cutting-edge tone to the treatment of infertility, be it medical,
surgical, biological, genetic…It paid off, and our application was accepted,” Sefrioui added.
Initially slated for 2021, the congress was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sefrioui spoke about the event’s role as a venue for professionals in reproductive sciences to engage in dialogue and exchange the latest advancements in IVF and assisted reproductive technologies.
This year’s theme, “No Borders in Assisted Reproductive Technologies,” is set to tackle the importance of international collaboration and knowledge sharing in the evolution of reproductive technologies.
The congress is anticipated to attract over 1,500 participants, including experts, to explore innovations in IVF, endometriosis, and reproductive healthcare.
The summit also promises an extensive program featuring over 40 sessions led by 85 international speakers from various countries, including Morocco, France, Italy, Japan, the US, Turkiye, the UK, and others.
Topics will cover the latest advances in adenomyosis, fibroids, congenital uterine anomalies, and more, with discussions on new techniques in IVF, ethical considerations, and oncofertility.
Renowned international scientific societies, such as the French Federation for Reproductive Studies (FFWR), the Italian Society of Human Reproduction (SIRU), and the Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction (ISAR), among others, will actively participate to foster collaborative research and intercultural exchange.
The congress will serve as a valuable platform for emerging scientists and researchers to present their work, with exceptional submissions to be eligible for publication in prominent scientific journals. Meanwhile, the participants will play an active role in promoting collaborative research and promoting intercultural exchange throughout the event.
As the countdown begins for this landmark event, the anticipation grows for what promises to be a groundbreaking gathering in the field of reproductive medicine.
