Moroccan Parliament Speaker : King Mohammed VI’s Commitment to Palestine is Unwavering

Rabat – Morocco continues to play a pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian cause, with Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, reaffirming the country’s steadfast commitment to Palestinian independence and self-determination under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.

Speaking on Tuesday in Rabat, Talbi Alami highlighted the various initiatives spearheaded by the Moroccan monarch, which emphasize the Kingdom’s dedication to the rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

These remarks come as tensions in the region continue to rise, underscoring Morocco’s involvement in addressing the humanitarian and political crises that affect the Palestinian territories.

In a resolution passed during the 162nd session of the League of Arab States Council at the ministerial level in Cairo, member states lauded the role of King Mohammed VI as Chair of the Al-Quds Committee

The Council also commended the efforts of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, which operates under the Committee’s guidance, for its work in defending the historic city of Jerusalem (Al-Quds) and providing support to its residents.

Humanitarian support and political advocacy for Palestine

In his report to the Council, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary General of the League of Arab States,  recognized Morocco’s humanitarian efforts, particularly a recent aid initiative led by King Mohammed VI.

On June 24, the Moroccan government delivered 40 tons of medical supplies to Gaza, a significant portion of which was funded personally by the monarch.

This operation aimed to alleviate the worsening conditions in the besieged territory, offering critical medical support to Gazans amidst Israel’s genocide on the besieged enclave.

Talbi Alami, addressing the opening of the 52nd Executive Committee meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUOIC), underscored Morocco’s efforts in safeguarding Palestinian rights.

He noted the longstanding historical ties between Morocco and the Palestinian cause, dating back to 1969, when Rabat hosted the Islamic Summit that led to the establishment of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The summit followed the arson attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque, a tragedy that further galvanized Islamic solidarity with Palestine.

“The Palestinian people deserve unequivocal support in their pursuit of legitimate rights,” said Talbi Alami, who emphasized that the only sustainable solution lies in establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Meanwhile, Enaam Mayara, President of Morocco’s Chamber of Councillors, echoed these sentiments, reiterating Morocco’s unwavering support for Palestinian rights.

Addressing the same PUOIC session, Mayara stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in advocating for an immediate ceasefire and improved humanitarian access to Gaza.

He condemned the ongoing violence and collective punishment imposed on Palestinians, urging international actors to push for a peaceful resolution. Mayara also highlighted Morocco’s initiatives aimed at fostering dialogue between civilizations.

He referenced several key diplomatic efforts, including the 2023 Marrakech Declaration, which emerged from an inter-parliamentary conference on interfaith dialogue. These initiatives, according to Mayara, reflect Morocco’s ongoing efforts to promote tolerance, peace, and cooperation across religious and cultural lines.

For this part, Secretary Aboul Gheit echoed these sentiments, citing Morocco’s role in maintaining the Islamic identity of Jerusalem (Al-Quds) and supporting Palestinian resilience through various initiatives.
