Rabat – A total of 45,690 Moroccan nationals living abroad passed through the port of Al Hoceima between June 5 and September 5 as part of Operation Marhaba, according to port officials.
The annual initiative, designed to facilitate the summer return of Moroccans residing overseas, saw an efficient and well-coordinated transit this year.
Rihab Boulemane, an officer at the port, reported to local media that the passenger flow included 21,039 individuals arriving in Morocco, with 24,651 departing for foreign destinations. In addition, 11,161 vehicles crossed through the port, with 5,440 entering the country and 5,721 heading abroad.
Boulemane emphasized that the entire operation was conducted under optimal conditions, thanks to the collaborative efforts of several agencies. “The smoothness of the procedures was remarkable,” she noted, highlighting the advanced equipment and the full mobilization of all stakeholders.
The emphasis on providing a welcoming and smooth experience is a hallmark of Operation Marhaba, which has become a key logistical and symbolic effort in ensuring that Moroccans living abroad feel connected to their homeland.
Key players in ensuring the operation’s success included the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the Royal Gendarmerie, National Security forces, Customs, and the Marsa Maroc company, alongside port and local authorities.
Security measures were also reinforced at the port, with additional personnel deployed to streamline customs and passport control processes.
Boulemane noted that the National Ports Agency (ANP), in cooperation with other involved entities, has significantly increased staffing to ensure swift passport and baggage inspections.
To further enhance the experience, teams were on hand to assist travelers with inquiries and provide guidance, ensuring the operation ran smoothly from start to finish.
Over years, Operation Marhaba has become an annual tradition initiative that plays a crucial role in reconnecting the Moroccan diaspora with their homeland.
