Rabat – Moroccan athlete Azeddine Nouiri secured a silver medal in the men’s shot put (F34) at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on Saturday.
Nouiri recorded a throw of 11.70 meters, falling just one centimeter short of Colombia’s Valencia Mauricio, who took gold with a throw of 11.71 meters.
The bronze medal went to Jordanian athlete Ahmed Hindi, who achieved a throw of 11.66 meters.
In a post-event statement, Nouiri expressed his disappointment at narrowly missing out on gold, noting that his primary goal had been to win Morocco’s second gold medal at the Games, SNRT News reported.
However, he emphasized his pride in winning the silver medal, adding that it contributes to Morocco’s overall medal tally. He also extended his best wishes to the remaining Moroccan athletes competing in the Games.
Nouiri’s silver brings Morocco’s medal count at the Paris 2024 Paralympics to nine.
Other notable achievements include bronze medals won by Ayman Hadawi in the men’s 100 meters (T47), Ayoub Adouich in the under-63kg category (K44) in para-taekwondo, and Rajaa Akramach in the over-65kg category in the same sport.
Saida Amoudi also took bronze in the women’s shot put (F34), while Fatima Zahra Idrissi earned silver in the women’s 1500 meters (T13), Abdelilah Kani in shot put, Yousra Karim in the women’s discus throw (F41), and Moncef Bouja claimed gold in the men’s 400 meters (T12).
The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are set to conclude on Sunday.
