Doha – Moroccan diplomats have denounced Algeria’s attempts to fraudulently include the Polisario Front in international summits despite the group being neither invited nor recognized by the organizers.

The accusations come in the wake of a recent incident at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), held from August 23-25.

According to Rabat-based sources quoted in a report by Spanish media, the Algerian diplomacy resorted to forgery, false documents, and even physical aggression to create the false impression that the Polisario Front, which Morocco refers to as a “fictional entity,” participated in the event.

“The result of the Algerian deception was that the TICAD was a total failure. Algeria caused the African continent to lose an important opportunity to further promote its development,” the sources stated.

The Moroccan diplomats further asserted that the successful holding of summits in Beijing, Seoul, and Bali, with the exclusive presence of African countries that are members of the United Nations, completely undermines Algeria’s “fallacious propaganda.”

They accused Algeria of selling “mirages to its own citizens, as well as to the populations it has held hostage and persecuted for five decades in the camps of shame in Tindouf.”

Morocco’s condemnation of Algerian maneuvers comes in the wake of the Polisario’s consistent exclusion from various international summits involving the African Union and its partners.

In the recently concluded China-Africa summit, held on September 3, China once again rejected the invitation of the Polisario Front despite Algeria’s efforts to secure their participation.

This decision aligns with China’s long-standing position on the Western Sahara issue, which favors Morocco’s stance.

The exclusion of the Polisario Front from such high-level meetings shows the separatist group’s dwindling support and recognition both in Africa and on the world stage.

As more countries lean towards Morocco’s position on the Western Sahara dispute, the Polisario Front finds itself increasingly isolated on the diplomatic stage.
