Rabat – Moroccan sprinter Mouncef Bouja clinched the gold medal in the men’s 400m T12 event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, held at the Stade de France today.
Bouja finished the race in 48.62 seconds, earning Morocco’s first gold medal of this year’s Paralympic Games.
American Noah Malone claimed the silver medal with a time of 49.35 seconds, while Tunisia’s Rouay Jebabli secured the bronze with a time of 49.56 seconds.
This victory marks Morocco’s eighth medal of the Paris Paralympics.
The country has also won three silver medals, achieved by Youssra Karim in the discus throw (F41), Fatima Zahra El Idrissi in the 1,500m (T13), and Abdelilah Gani in the shot put (F53).
Meanwhile, Moroccan athletes have won four bronze medals, including Saida Amoudi in the shot put (F34), Aymane El Haddaoui in the 100m (T47), and Ayoub Adouich (-63 kg/K44) and Rajae Akermach (+65 kg/K44) in para-taekwondo.
With these achievements, Morocco currently stands 39th in the overall medal standings at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
In a statement to MAP, Morocco’s news agency, National Education Minister Chakib Benmoussa highlighted the optimism and enthusiasm within the Moroccan Paralympic delegation, which includes athletes across various sports disciplines.
“The Moroccan Paralympic team approaches these Games with confidence and a positive attitude, fueled by a spirit of unity and excitement, with hopes of achieving outstanding results,” Benmoussa said.
He attributed the successful qualification of the 38 Moroccan para-athlete, 24 men and 14 women, to the hard work and dedication of sports federations, technical teams, and the sports ministry.
