Rabat – OCP Nutricrops, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), Intercereales-France, and Arvalis have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost collaboration in agronomic research and advance sustainable agricultural development.

This MoU represents a game-changer collaboration between all the parties, each contributing specialized expertise in agriculture, research, technology, and innovation.

Together, they aim through this initiative to drive joint research projects addressing key challenges in soil health, precision agriculture, water management, and climate adaptation.

OCP Nutricrops, a subsidiary of the OCP Group, specializes in developing soil nutrition solutions aimed at supporting global food production and sustainability. Using high-quality, sustainably produced phosphate, the company provides tailored soil health and plant nutrition solutions. By working closely with agronomists and experts worldwide, OCP Nutricrops enables farmers to access effective, sustainable products suited to various soil types and crops.

“This agreement gives us a unique chance to unite efforts in tackling global challenges in food security and sustainability,” Youssef El Bari, CEO of OCP Nutricrops, was quoted as saying in the announcement.

UM6P President Hicham El Habti remarked, “Innovation and research are core to our strategy. By pooling our expertise with OCP Nutricrops, Intercéréales-France, and Arvalis, we strengthen our ability to create sustainable solutions for today’s agricultural challenges, fostering responsible and environmentally conscious farming.”

UM6P states that it is dedicated to crafting innovative solutions for Africa’s unique challenges and broader global needs. With a strong focus on research and training, UM6P builds partnerships within the industrial sector to drive innovation and foster entrepreneurial growth.

The partnership is also set to facilitate the exchange of scientific knowledge and sustainable practices, with a focus on solutions customized for diverse soils and ecological needs. Additionally, the organizations commit to holding events, meetings, and training sessions that will promote productive, low-carbon agriculture.

Intercereales-France represents the French cereal sector, including crops like wheat, maize, barley, rye, and quinoa. It provides a collaborative platform for industry stakeholders to promote French expertise and bolster product quality in domestic and international markets.

Meanwhile, Arvalis, France’s largest applied agricultural research organization, serves as a key technical authority for major crops. Its mission involves gathering vital knowledge and delivering innovations to producers of cereals, potatoes, forage, and other essential crops, fostering production systems that align economic performance with market needs and environmental sustainability.

Benoît Piétrement, President of Intercereales-France, noted the importance of this collaboration, “Thanks to this partnership, the French cereal sector will leverage the expertise of its various partners in research, innovation, plant nutrition, and knowledge of the Mediterranean climate. This will enable us to better adapt cereal cultivation to climatic variations, which is crucial for the sustainability of our agricultural and agri-food sectors.”

In the same vein, Jean-Marc Schwartz, President of Arvalis, stated, “With its expertise in agronomy and plant nutrition, Arvalis is committed, along with its partners, to exploring all possible technical levers to meet the increasing food needs amid climate change.”
