Rabat – Italy’s RES4Africa foundation has successfully concluded its inaugural high-level managerial course on renewable energy and energy transition at Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P).
Spanning decarbonization, renewable policies, and regulatory frameworks, the program offered a comprehensive dive into the challenges and opportunities of Africa’s renewable markets.
The 10-day program, held from October 15-24, was hosted by UM6P but organized by Italy as a knowledge partner.
The course is part of Italy’s “Mattei Plan for Africa,” an initiative that prioritizes skills development to drive the energy transition while fostering sustainable job creation.
This initiative received the support of Italy’s Council of Ministers, the Enel Foundation, and the Italian Embassy in Morocco.
The program welcomed 48 elite professionals from 14 African nations, marking a significant step towards advancing renewable energy expertise across Africa. Participants represented 23 public institutions, energy companies, and research bodies, aiming to develop the practical skills needed to address Africa’s evolving energy needs.
Experts from RES4Africa’s network led workshops and case studies, blending theoretical insights with hands-on examples to demonstrate the latest advancements in energy technology.
According to a press release, the collaborative environment was not only a place to hone technical expertise but also networking, setting the stage for ongoing partnerships among energy professionals across the continent.
“This course plays an essential role in equipping Africa’s future energy leaders,” Roberto Vigotti, Secretary General of RES4Africa, was quoted as saying in the statement. “By building local capacity, we’re supporting sustainable energy solutions and fostering connections that can catalyze positive change across the continent.”
UM6P President Hicham El Habti echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the program aims to develop “African talent who will lead ambitious energy projects,” while laying the foundation for a sustainable, self-reliant energy ecosystem.
RES4Africa states that they are dedicated to building skills and knowledge for a fair energy transition in Africa. The foundation asserts that their initiatives are aimed to help people access sustainable, modern energy that meets global goals for sustainable development.
Since its founding in 2012, the Rome-based foundation has served as a bridge for clean energy investments between Europe and Africa, striving to support Africa’s journey toward achieving universal access to renewable energy.
