‘No. 40’: German Police Bust Pizzeria for Secret Cocaine Delivery with Pizza Orders

Rabat – German police conducted a drug bust in a pizza restaurant in Dusseldorf, which was caught delivering cocaine as a side dish along with its pizza orders.

Customers who order item number 40 receive not only a pizza slice but also a cocaine dose, AP reported today. “That was one of the best-selling pizzas,” AP quoted criminal director Michael Graf von Moltke as saying.

Police launched an investigation after food inspectors raised suspicions prompting drug squad officers to investigate the restaurant’s activities in March.

The drug squad raided the pizzeria manager’s apartment, during which he allegedly threw a bag of drugs out of the window. Unlucky for him, however, the bag “fell right into the arms of the police officers,” the authorities said.

The bag of drugs included 1.6 kilograms of cocaine, 400 grams of cannabis, as well as $290,378 in cash.

Police acknowledged that initially the manager was released after a few days, after which he then reopened his business to start selling pizza number 40 with the cocaine side order again, AFP added.

The situation prompted a larger, more thorough investigation that led to the arrest of an “entire drug ring” in Western Germany.

The operation enabled police to also arrest three suspects, of which include the pizzeria manager, who tried to flee abroad. He is reportedly still in custody.
