Rabat – A drone strike targeted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s vacation home in northern Israel, setting off air raid sirens across the country, including Tel Aviv.
According to Netanyahu’s spokesperson, one of three drones launched from Lebanon hit his residence in the town of Caesarea on Saturday. The statement affirmed that Netanyahu was not present at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported.
The Israeli military confirmed that the two other drones were intercepted before reaching their targets.
In a related development, over 100 rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel, injuring at least 13 people. Israeli authorities are treating the drone strike as a potential “assassination attempt.”
Alerts have been raised within the Israeli security establishment due to the drone’s ability to travel approximately 70 kilometers from the Lebanese border undetected, successfully striking its target without triggering air raid sirens beforehand.
The drone attack has not yet been claimed by Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Lebanese group that has been in a state of conflict with Israel since October. This latest escalation follows the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar just two days earlier.
In a joint statement, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency confirmed that during an operation in Gaza, IDF forces “eliminated three terrorists.” The statement reported that after engaging a group of Hamas members in a gunfight inside a building, one of the deceased was found to strongly resemble Sinwar.
