Marrakech – Essaouira, a vibrant port city, has secured the second spot among trending travel destinations for 2025, with a staggering 724% increase in searches by German tourists compared to 2024, according to the Bavarian news site “Münchner Merkur.”

Visitors are drawn to Essaouira’s perfect surf waves, its charming medina, and fresh seafood dishes that capture the essence of the coastal lifestyle.

“Münchner Merkur” also highlights that Morocco’s co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal presents a golden opportunity for the country’s tourism industry to shine even brighter.

Skyscanner’s study, which reveals the most sought-after destinations for German holidaymakers in 2025, shows a clear trend: off-the-beaten-path spots are winning over travelers.

Essaouira’s allure is clearly catching the eye of travelers looking for something special.

Essaouira takes the second spot in this ranking, coming right after Reggio Calabria in Italy, which saw a 747% spike in searches. It’s followed by Siem Reap in Cambodia, coming in third with a 294% increase.

Meanwhile, Agadir also made headlines, ranking third in a similar Skyscanner report, highlighted by “Merkur,” for seeing significant drops in flight prices.

The cost of flights to Agadir, “a former fishing village that lures travelers with its golden beaches, perfect surf waves, and desert excursions,” has decreased by around 34%, according to the Munich-based newspaper.

Among the destinations leading the charge in cutting flight costs, Kaunas, Lithuania, took the top spot (-41%), followed by Luxor, Egypt (-40%), and both Agadir and Kahului, Hawaii, with a 28% drop.
