Rabat – IsraelI Occupation Forces (IOF) genocidal campaign in Gaza continues with deadly strikes, even as the spotlight shifts northward to its conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon.
On Wednesday, October 2, the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis was rocked by IOF air and ground assaults, resulting in more than 50 Palestinian deaths, according to local medical officials.
Despite this violence, the attention of global media has largely focused on Israel’s military operations in Lebanon.
The ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza has escalated alongside rising tensions on Israel’s northern front with Hezbollah.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant recently described incursions into Lebanon as a “new phase” of the IOF genocide, leading to the redeployment of Israeli troops from Gaza to Lebanon.
However, in Gaza, where ground operations have slowed, airstrikes continue to target densely populated areas.
The IOF have acknowledged “targeted raids” in Gaza, particularly around the Netzarim corridor, a strategic road bisecting the enclave.
Reports from sources such as the Institute for the Study of War have highlighted continued Israeli strikes on Gaza infrastructure, though fewer Israeli soldiers are on the ground compared to earlier phases of the genocide.
In late 2023, an estimated 40,000 Israeli troops were involved in fighting in Gaza. Today, that number has significantly dwindled as the IOF focuses on Lebanon.
Meanwhile, in Lebanon, the toll of Israeli bombardments is staggering. More than 2,000 people have been killed, with nearly 1.2 million displaced, according to Lebanese officials.
Civilians, particularly in southern Lebanon and Beirut’s suburbs, have borne the brunt of the violence. Aid organizations are struggling to cope with the humanitarian disaster, as international efforts ramp up to assist the displaced.
Despite Lebanon’s socio-economic challenges, aid is trickling in. On Thursday, October 3, the World Bank announced $250 million in redirected funds to assist those displaced by the bombings, while the UN launched a $426 million appeal for urgent aid to Lebanon..
