Rabat – Morocco’s tourism sector continues to maintain its global appeal, with tourist arrivals reaching 13.1 million visitors by the end of September 2024.
The country’s Ministry of Tourism said on Wednesday that this remarkable performance represents an increase of around two million tourists compared to the same period in 2023.
The data also highlights Morocco’s growing appeal on the international tourism scene, the ministry said, noting that September was particularly notable with 1.3 million tourists visiting the North African country.
This marks a 33% rise compared to September 2023, the data added, noting a 40% increase in the number of foreign tourists during the same month.
Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor celebrated the momentum, describing it as “undeniable.”
“Our country is increasingly shining on the international stage. Our targeted efforts, aligned with our roadmap, are being fruitful,” the minister said, adding that the significant increase in air connections, promotional campaigns, as well as the development of modern infrastructure and attractive tourism experiences.
This strategy contributes to this exceptional dynamism, Ammor said, concluding: “This new record in tourist arrivals fills us with pride and strengthens our determination to achieve our ambitious goal of 26 million visitors by 2030.”
Morocco’s government and the country’s Tourism Office (ONMT) is intensifying efforts to boost local tourism, seeking to attract both domestic and international visitors to the country’s cultural heritage.
Earlier this week, ONMT announced the launch of a new communication campaign called “Ntla9awfbladna” – translated to “Let’s meet in our country” – to encourage national tourists to explore Morocco’s tourism destinations.
“The launch of this campaign coincides with the school holidays to encourage traveling during this period, while highlighting the importance of using common transport means when traveling,” the statement reads.
