Doha – The upcoming launch of Royal Air Maroc’s (RAM) new direct flight from Casablanca to Toronto marks an important milestone in strengthening ties between Africa and Canada, according to representatives from several Canadian professional associations and organizations.

According to the initial announcement on August 2, the inaugural flight of the new route is scheduled for December 8 and will operate three times per week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

The route confirms Morocco’s African vocation and desire to further connect the continent with Canada and North America more broadly.

“This direct flight will foster new opportunities for businesspeople, academics, artists and citizens on both sides of the Atlantic,” said Souriya Otmani, Morocco’s Ambassador to Canada, at a ceremony held Wednesday evening in Toronto organized by the national airline, as reported by MAP. “It’s an important moment in relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and Canada.”

Ambassador Otmani noted that the event marks a major step in strengthening ties between the two countries and beyond with several Arab, African and European nations, opening new prospects for regional and international cooperation and exchange.

“The choice of Casablanca as Royal Air Maroc’s strategic hub underlines Morocco’s central position, not only in Africa but also as a bridge between continents,” she said.

The new direct route to Toronto joins RAM’s vast international network, consolidating and confirming Morocco’s pivotal role in global trade, Otmani added.

Nour-Eddine Ezzairi, RAM’s regional representative in Canada, said the new route will further consolidate the airline’s positioning and illustrates its ambition to expand its network.

The direct Casablanca-Toronto flight will also open new horizons in economic and academic fields and have an undeniable impact on social and cultural exchanges, Ezzairi noted.

As the leading regional airline in Africa serving over 90 destinations, RAM plays an essential role in connecting Africa to the rest of the world via its Casablanca hub.

Representatives from several African communities in Toronto, including the Ghana Association of Ontario and the Nigerian Canadian Association, welcomed the initiative, saying it will further strengthen ties between African communities in Toronto and the African continent.

The Casa-Toronto route is the national airline’s second direct route to Canada, strengthening RAM’s Americas network which currently includes direct flights from its Casablanca hub to Montreal, New York, Washington, Miami and Sao Paulo, with the latter route set to resume on December 7.
